Prayer Groups
Location: United Reformed Church, High Street, Glastonbury (enter by the main door).
When: Thursdays from 2.30pm – 3.30pm.
Contemplative Prayer
There will be a short introduction — from the Desert Fathers, Benedict, Ignatius of Loyola, the Carmelites — Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Brother Lawrence (The Practice of the Presence of God) and more . . . followed by half an hour’s silence — after which there will be an opportunity for sharing.
Sometimes we practise different ways of meditating, and have the opportunity of reflecting on the process of meditation — how to deal with distractions, difficult feelings. . .
This group meets fortnightly starting on Thursday 4th September 2025.

Lectio Divina
Lectio Divina (‘Sacred Reading’), is an ancient practice of slowly listening to the Word of God through Scripture. It involves reading slowly, reflecting in silence, sharing gently, and resting in God’s presence. It is not a Bible study or debate — it is a prayerful encounter with Scripture, open to all, wherever you are on your spiritual journey.
Who is it for?
Catholics wanting to deepen their prayer life
Christians from other traditions
Those curious about the Bible or seeking spiritual connection
No prior knowledge or experience needed. You are welcome to listen in silence or to share — participation is always at your own pace.
What to expect
Warm welcome and short opening prayer
Listening to the Gospel reading for the coming Sunday
Periods of quiet reflection and optional sharing
No pressure, no ‘right answers’ — just openness to the Word and Spirit
Come and discover the quiet joy of listening deeply to God’s Word.
The group meets fortnightly starting on Thursday 11th September 2025.
